Wireless cameras are an effective and inexpensive way to monitor the safety of your home or office. Installation is relatively easy to complete as a “do it yourself” project, and shouldn’t take more than a few hours to set up and configure. One in place, your wireless security camera will help you keep track of your children, monitor entrances and back yards.

Most wireless cameras emit a signal that performs at distances of up to 300 feet, possibly more. With such a wide range, the wireless camera can be moved around whatever space you choose without the hassle of having to reconfigure your equipment. Also thanks to the wireless capabilities, these cameras are more resistant to tampering than their hardwired counterparts.

There are, however, a few drawbacks to wireless cameras. Inherent to all wireless products is interference caused by other wireless devices and electrical equipment. Physical obstructions (such as walls) can also cause the wireless signal to relay a weaker signal, resulting in poor performance. It’s also important to remember that cordless phones can interfere with the camera’s wireless signal. One solution is to use a cordless phone that operates at 5ghz or higher rather than the 2.4ghz frequency that more wireless cameras use.

Powering your wireless security camera is simple. If you’re willing to change batteries or rechargeable battery packs for better mobility, then look for cameras with such features. Otherwise, there are models that plug into a wall outlet. For battery-powered cameras, some power-saving features such as motion sensors are available to lessen the battery consumption, allowing for maximum performance even in precarious camera locations.

When considering home security, door locks aren’t often the first thing that comes to mind. All too often, homes are equipped with cheap, inadequate locks that are easily picked or “bumped” by burglars looking for an easy target. While these cheap locks may be appealing in terms of price, investing in quality, heavy-duty locks and deadbolts is essential to keeping your home and family secure in a time when desperate criminals are looking to profit in a dismal economy.

The first line of defense is the doorknob itself. Though always the first target of would-be robbers, a high quality knob will resist the effort of even the most expert criminal. More importantly is the deadbolt lock, a much more heavy-duty counterpart to the locking doorknob. Cheap locks, though, are vulnerable to a crude but effective break-in method called “bumping.” The intruder simply inserts a screwdriver into the keyhole, taps the screwdriver into the hole fooling the locking mechanism and allowing the lock to be opened. One manufacturer, Medeco, is known for a lock that is virtually impenetrable and while expensive, is well worth the peace of mind.

Other options include a door chain. While easy to overpower, door chains are relatively inexpensive, easy to install and could either deter the intruder or at least buy you some valuable time should you be home at the time of a break-in. A slightly more invasive option is installing a steel bar that slides down from the door itself into the floor.

While there is no foolproof way to completely secure your home, purchasing high quality door locks can increase your security and peace of mind. Visiting a home improvement store or lock manufactures’ websites can also provide you with valuable information and the last innovations in lock technology.

Nearly everyone has at least one item in their home that they want to keep safe from fire, flood or burglary, but few people take advantage of having a home security safe. Rather than keeping a bank deposit box, you can keep your valuable jewelry, irreplaceable documents and keepsakes out of harm’s way, but still within arm’s reach.

Though your changes of a home break-in aren’t great, you still have to consider the possibility of an unwanted intruder in your home, hoping to make a quick profit off of anything they can grab. In this volatile economy, knowing that there are many desperate criminals out there is important to consider. If your valuable and irreplaceable identification documents are secured in a safe, you can enjoy the peace of mind that knowing such items are secure.

Equally disconcerting is the possibility of a house fire destroying important documents or photographs of loved ones, keepsakes, memorabilia, etc. By purchasing a fireproof safe, you can rest assured that whatever contents you place inside will be protected from calamity.

Another feature of home security safes is that they come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Depending on your needs and space available, you can find the right shape and durability to protect your items. Safes as small as shoeboxes to those the size of refrigerators are available for home use and worth looking into to improve your home security and peace of mind.

When a thief is perusing a neighborhood looking for a victim, they often choose the house that isn’t protected by any security at all. That’s a given, right? But how do they know which homes have security and which ones don’t? Can they just look at a house and tell whether the door is wired with an alarm, or that the windows are? Do they know that the house has a camera in the living room or in any of the bedrooms? Do they know whether or not the system is wired to a security company that will contact the police if any of the alarms are tripped? Of course not. However, most thieves look for stickers or signs posted in the yard that indicate whether or not that house is protected by a home security surveillance system. So is it any shock that most homes aren’t protected by any alarms at all and merely employ these stickers and signs to keep burglars at bay?

False Signs

If you post some stickers or signs in your yard that claim that your house is protected by an alarm, why would a burglar risk tripping any wires or setting off any alarms? They won’t. They will go onto the next house that doesn’t have any of these stickers or signs. You can get these home security surveillance stickers and signs at any hardware store or you can get them online. They’re a great way to tell burglars to bug off, as your home may or may not be protected by a home security surveillance system. What burglar wants to take a chance that a home may be protected? That’s why these false stickers and signs may be all you need instead of spending hundreds of dollars on a home security surveillance system.

Fake Cameras

Many people also go the extra step beyond just stickers and signs and they actually put up dummy home security cameras. These fake cameras only look like real cameras, there is no function to them at all. However, a burglar doesn’t know that. They will think it’s a real camera and will just go onto the next house that doesn’t have cameras. Some fake cameras that people put up instead of a home security surveillance system even have little red lights that make them look real.

It should be noted that a burglar must think that your home is protected by a home security surveillance system. That means not blabbing to your neighbors and anyone else who will listen that your cameras and signs are fake and also not boasting about any valuables in your house because signs or not, a burglar will take the chance no your home, especially if they think there’s a big score to be had.

Regardless of the expected home security monitoring cost you need to ensure that your home is always well protected and this you can ensure by installing a good (even cheap) home security monitoring system. The fact is that today criminals are targeting homes and will certainly not hold back from breaking in should they discover that a home is not protected by a home security monitoring system. Burglars will strike even during the daytime these because they may know that the family is away at work and the children are at school and neighbors too are busy in their own way – all of which means that the home is unprotected and so ripe for burgling.

Daylight Robbery

During daylight hours burglars can easily break into a home without needing flashlights or having to act too surreptitiously. He can simply pretend that he belongs there and no one will suspect that anything is amiss. The good news for home owners however is that the home security monitoring costs have come down so much that purchasing a quality home security monitoring system is not all that difficult or costly.

You can cut home security monitoring costs in different ways including by purchasing simple ten dollar do-it-yourself kits or you could afford higher home security monitoring costs by investing in professional quality home security monitoring systems. Regardless of the home security monitoring cost you can expect that each of these systems will provide you with sufficient protection against burglaries and you can also rest assured that the police too can be alerted should the home security monitoring system detect an intrusion and has the capability to alert the law about the intrusion.

Of course, the cheapest home security monitoring cost is when you use your pet dog who can alert you when someone unknown approaches your front door; however, the cheaper home security monitoring systems will provide slightly more protection and the simplest such system would include using an electrically operated circuit alarm that is built into the entry. You could also think in terms of using motion detection devices which can be installed both within and without the premises.

The bottom line in regard to true home security monitoring cost is that with even a simple home security monitoring system installed your home would be thrice as secure as a home that does not have any security monitoring systems installed.

One way to minimize home security monitoring costs is to undertake do-it-yourself home security projects. This can help save you a lot of money and if you are successful in doing things the proper way you can also enjoy better protection without having had to break the bank in the process.

Home security cameras are very important for homeowners, especially those living in big cities or crime prone areas. There are various types of outdoor home security cameras available that vary in design, size and cost. Outdoor cameras are usually larger, and have some additional features that makes it possible to record even in the absolute darkness.

Benefits of Outdoor Home Security Cameras

Wireless cameras are now gaining popularity for outdoor surveillance. These outdoor home security cameras do not need wires to transmit the signal to the receiver that is kept inside the house. These cameras are easy to install and use.

Outdoor home security cameras are available in different varieties. There are day cameras, low light cameras, cameras for semi-darkness, night vision camera and day night camera. Color cameras can change to black and white mode during low light conditions.

Outdoor home security cameras can be dome cameras that are able to pan and swivel, c-mount cameras that can support various lenses as per the situation, and bullet cameras that are usually stationary.

Wireless outdoor home security cameras transmit the signal to the receiver kept inside the house, and the receiver is capable of receiving the signals from many sources at a given time. It then sends the video to the monitor directly, or to a storage device so that it can be viewed later. The output device can be computer or television monitor, and storage device can be DVR. Some of the outdoor home security cameras use slower wireless connection, which deteriorates the image quality.

When using the wireless outdoor home security cameras, it is possible to get some interference from the surrounding wireless signals as they can jam the receiver.

It may not be always possible to install the outdoor home security cameras under shade or portico, hence these cameras must be weather proof that can withstand hot sun and rain. As these cameras need to be placed outside, they need to be protected from crooks trying to vandalize, and must be installed as high as possible.

Outdoor home security cameras must have in-built infrared LEDs so that they can record even when there is zero visibility. Home security monitoring must be chosen carefully as your house and family is at stake. There are all types of security systems available in the market, and you can choose as per your budget and requirement. Internet is a great place to do some research, and get the ideas about various models, prices and companies. The monitoring system does not have to be expensive, but must be effective.
